Christmas Markets in Frankfurt & Around 2026: All Dates

Sound familiar? Halloween is barely over and everyone is asking just one thing: when do the Christmas markets open? Here's my overview for 2026 – Frankfurt and the markets around the city, with dates, locations and opening hours.

As of October 2026. All dates come straight from the cities and organisers themselves. Opening hours can still change, though. That's why I link the official page with the dates for every market – give it a quick check before you go.

At a glance

Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt (city centre)

The big classic, right in the middle of the Old Town – and the start of the season for the whole of Frankfurt. On the Mainkai there's a separate children's Christmas market.

Rosa Weihnacht (Old Town)

• Where: Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, near the Hauptwache
• When: 23 Nov – 22 Dec 2026

The city's queer Christmas market – a meeting point for the LGBTQ+ community and open to everyone.

Winterterrasse at main Terrasse (city centre)

• Where: main Terrasse by the Eiserner Steg footbridge

CityAlm (city centre)

• Where: roof of the Konstablerwache car park, Carl-Theodor-Reiffenstein-Platz 5, 60313 Frankfurt
• When: Christmas market from 5 Nov 2026; the Almhütte (alpine hut) has been open since 17 Oct

Alpine-hut feeling on top of a car park. Good to know: unfortunately, access isn't barrier-free.

Skyline Winterzauber (Europaviertel)

• Where: roof terrace of the Skyline Plaza, Europa-Allee 6, 60327 Frankfurt
• When: 5 Nov – 23 Dec 2026, closed on Sun 8 Nov, Sun 15 Nov and Sun 22 Nov

• Eisstockschießen (Bavarian curling): €99 plus VAT per lane per hour, up to 10 people (as of October 2026)

Heads-up: in 2026 there's no ice rink here – it's taking a year off because of renovation work on the roof terrace. You can still go Eisstockschießen, though.

Christmas market at the Thurn und Taxis Palais (city centre)

Massif Central Wintermarkt (city centre)

Sachsenhäuser Weihnachtsmarkt (Sachsenhausen)

• Where: by the Goetheturm (Goethe Tower), Sachsenhäuser Landwehrweg
• When: 16 Nov – 20 Dec 2026, closed on Totensonntag, the Sunday of remembrance for the dead (22 Nov)
• Opening hours: Mon–Thu 16:00–21:00, Fri 16:00–22:00, Sat 13:00–22:00, Sun 13:00–21:00

A Christmas market at the edge of the forest, right by the Goetheturm. Pro tip: parking is tight at the weekend – better to come by bus, train or bike.

Winterlichter in the Palmengarten (Westend)

• Where: Palmengarten, entrances at Siesmayerstraße 63 and Palmengartenstraße 11
• When: 5 Dec 2026 – 10 Jan 2027, closed on 24 and 31 Dec
• Opening hours: daily 17:00–21:00, last entry 20:00
• Admission: in advance €12, reduced €5; at the door €14, reduced €6 (as of October 2026)

Not a classic market but a light event in the Palmengarten. Pro tip: tickets only come with a fixed entry time slot, and there are only so many – better to book ahead, because the door only sells whatever is left.

Künstler-Weihnachtsmarkt (Old Town)

• Where: Paulskirche (24 Nov – 20 Dec 2026) and the Römerhalle and Schwanenhalle in the Römer (4–21 Dec 2026)
• Opening hours: daily 12:00–20:00, until 18:00 on the last day at each venue
• Admission: free

Bad Homburg

The Weihnachtsstadt Bad Homburg runs from 19 Nov 2026 to 10 Jan 2027. It also includes the "Eiswinter" ice rink in the Kurpark.

Romantischer Weihnachtsmarkt am Schloss

Oberurseler Weihnachtsmarkt

On the Marktplatz there's a Christmassy medieval market, and on Epinayplatz a children's Christmas market with a steam train.

Oberurseler Weihnachtsdorf

• Where: Rathausplatz

Seligenstädter Adventsmarkt

The lights on the tree are switched on at 17:00 on 28 Nov. After that, things carry on with the smaller Budenzauber on Freihofplatz – until 30 Dec 2026, closed from 24 to 26 Dec.

Darmstadt

Darmstädter Weihnachtsmarkt

• Where: city centre around Marktplatz and Friedensplatz
• When: 16 Nov – 23 Dec 2026, closed on Totensonntag (22 Nov)

All the Mainz markets start on 26 Nov 2026. Some open again after Christmas, from 27 to 30 Dec.

From 23 November to 22 December 2026, on the Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, Hauptwache and Roßmarkt. It's open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 21:00.

Which Christmas market in Frankfurt opens first?

The Winterterrasse at main Terrasse by the Eiserner Steg starts on 1 November 2026. The CityAlm Christmas market and Skyline Winterzauber follow on 5 November, the Christmas market at the Thurn und Taxis Palais on 6 November, and Ocean Winterland on 7 November.

Which Christmas markets are still open after Christmas?

Winterlichter in the Palmengarten and WinterStubb in Wiesbaden run until 10 January 2027. The Offenbacher Weihnachtsmarkt, the Winterzauber at the Kurhaus in Bad Homburg, the Budenzauber in Seligenstadt and several Mainz markets are open until 30 December.
